Hey, friend! I’m here to guide you to tools that can help lead to a calmer, less anxious life and one way I do that is by pointing out truths in Scripture that can help guide our thinking and mindset into peace.

But before we dive in, let me introduce myself. I’m Britt Skinner, a licensed mental health therapist, and I specialize in a form of therapy called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I’m so glad you’re here.

When it comes to anxiety, we often feel like there is no truth to stand on. We get caught in the thought spirals and we can’t see a way out OR we believe the lie that we can think ourselves out of it. We believe if we just think of ABC & XYZ we’ll be prepared for whatever comes our way and thus not anxious for it. THAT is probably the biggest lie anxiety tells you.

Anxiety is rooted in fear and when we have fear in our minds we begin to have distorted thoughts that lead to confusion, worry and all sorts of emotions and behaviors that bring turmoil.

We look around for answers but, truthfully, the best source of truth is God’s Word.

I truly believe that the Scripture holds some incredible wisdom that can help us in times of uncertainty. You know that verse, 2 Timothy 3:16-17? It talks about how all of Scripture is like a treasure trove of teachings to equip us for anything life throws our way.

But, how can we know for sure that the Bible is trustworthy? Are there facts that can support our faith?

Actually, yes! Let’s take a quick look at 4 ways you can know for certain the Bible is not just a story written by people – but truth you can count on.

Historical Accuracy: It’s amazing how the Bible, with its 66 books, written by so many people over such a long time, still tells one story about Jesus. It’s like a puzzle that fits together perfectly. Just like Sir Isaac Newton didn’t give us gravity, but explained it, the Bible’s divine touch is evident in its harmony.

Textual Accuracy: Scripture has stood the test of time. It’s like a masterpiece that’s been preserved meticulously. The number and quality of copies across history make it clear that this isn’t just any old book. The discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls between 1947 – 1956 confirmed the textual accuracy in a way we never have before.

Prophetic Accuracy: The way the Bible foretells future events is uncanny. It’s like having a crystal ball, but better. The prophecies that came true show that these words are more than just human ideas – they’re guided by God.

Transformative Power: The stories of people’s lives changing because of the Bible are incredible. It’s not just about reading words; it’s about letting them shape our lives and the encounters we can have with God through them. When our Bibles look well-loved, it usually means we’ve been letting them guide us.

So, how can we really dive into the Scripture’s wisdom to find comfort? Let’s keep it simple:

  • Observe: Read the Bible daily. Let the words soak in and become familiar.
  • Interpret: Chat with other trusted people about it. Sometimes, their perspectives open up new insights.
  • Apply: Take what you learn and use it every day. Jesus talked about this in John 8:31-32, The truth can set you free.
